Our Story

Pamba Toto means "Adorn a Child" in Swahili

"Do you think I'm crazy?"

In February 2006 during a phone conversation with her friend, Colleen, Debbie was explaining that she had decided to sell jewelry to raise money for Sanctuary of Hope (SoH), a children's home for eleven orphans in Nairobi, Kenya. On the other end of the line, Colleen's heart rate accelerated as she replied, "Well, I have to ask you if you think I'm crazy, because I've just decided to make jewelry for the same reason!"
For the previous ten years, Debbie and her husband, Brian, had invested their summers in leading teams of college students to Kenya, many of whom served in orphanages.

Only a few months later, Debbie and Colleen, simultaneously and independently of one another, received the vision to make and sell jewelry to raise awareness and funds for SoH. Since then, they've just been hanging on to God's coat tails as he expands the mission.

        Pastor and Edith Karau

Parents to 11 children at Sanctuary of Hope

Colleen and her husband, Dave, had adopted two precious children (Jedd and Lily) from a Kenyan orphanage. Through Brian and Debbie, Colleen and Dave had met Kenyan Pastor Jepson Karau and Edith Karau, who became like family to the Briggs during their daughter's adoption.

Broken hearts for Kenya's two million orphans and a passionate love for Jesus compelled these three couples to help open SoH through Hope's Promise orphan ministries.
